FAQ
What is a livestock/calving camera?
A livestock camera is a camera that you install in your barn, pens, or other areas of your farm where your animals calve, foal, etc.
Having a camera in these areas can save you countless late-night trips in the winter, allowing you to sleep through the night knowing that if anything happens, you’ll be aware of it.
Where can you use a livestock camera?
You can use a livestock camera anywhere where you have power!
By getting a livestock camera system through us, we provide everything else you need.
Whether you are purchasing the DIY kit, or having professionally installed by us, along as you power within 20 feet, you can put a camera there!
Are Livestock Cameras rated to be outside in Alberta?
Yes, they are!
The only parts not rated for complete outdoors are the power supplies. However, the standard power cord on the camera is 20 feet long. So as long as you have a power outlet inside, within 20 feet of where you are putting the camera it will work!
How long do they last?
Because livestock cameras are installed in a variety of different situations, their lifespan can range widely. But in all cases, they should last at least 3-5 years, with most cases being 10+ years.
The worst conditions for cameras are high temperatures and high humidity locations. So the more regulated the temperature and humidity, the longer they will last!
What Quality of Video do they Display?
You can get cameras of all resolutions for the right price.
However, the standard livestock cameras sold by us are 1440p (2K), with a small upcharge to get 4K quality.
I have existing Livestock Cameras. Will these work with them?
Absolutely!
The cameras we sell and install are able to be tied into existing systems with ease.
In order to add them to your system you will only need the unlock pattern, and admin password for your NVR. with those two things, and a little bit of know-how (contact us if you need help) you can gett everything together with one system
Do the Cameras record 24/7?
Absolutely!
The storage they come with out of the box (no subscription fee necessary) will hold approximately 2 weeks’ worth of recordings. However, you can bookmark certain clips or times to be saved forever, and they will never be overwritten.
If you also have motion alerts activated, those sections will also be flagged within the 24-hour recording timeline so you can quickly navigate to them.
Can I get alerts from my cameras?
You can!
Whether you want motion alerts, people alerts, or any other type of alerts, you can set them up to be sent as notifications to your phone or device.
Do the cameras need a wire run to them?
Only power.
While you can run an ethernet cable directly to the camera for internet connectivity, you can simply connect them using wifi.
So as long as you have power somewhere nearby you can put your camera almost anywhere!
